Happy first day of Spring!! It is such a beautiful day here! Lovely weather! I’ve got a nice yummy smelling roast sizzling in the oven and I’m working on my research paper for my Medieval England History class. ๐Ÿ™‚

Speaking of things that are so beautiful, how many of you are familiar with the magazine Sew Beautiful? You know, Martha Pullen and her sewing empire? Well if you are at all in tune with the sewing world, I’m sure you have heard of this famous sewing magazine. Martha Pullen even has a sewing television show on PBS. She does all kinds of fun things, including her Summer School of Art Fashion in Alabama. My mom and I went to it 3 or 4 different summers when I was little. My little sister Kelsey went with us once too. They have all different classes you can take and learn specialty sewing techniques and there is a super fun Sew Kool for Kids School too! I’m sure they still have it, you should definitely look into going! It is really fun! We even got to go to Martha’s house for a special event each year!

Anyway, back to the magazine. My mom has had several of her own sewing creations featured in it before! In several different issues. A couple years ago, she made outfits for Jill, Kelsey, Evie and I and we all got to model them in a photoshoot for the magazine. Jill’s and Evie’s came out in one issue, and mine came out in a different issue with a whole separate article all about my outfit. This month’s issue, Issue No. 135, 2011 Volume 25, Number 2– features another dress that my mom made! It was Evie’s flower girl dress for Blair’s wedding! When Blair and my Mom took Evie down to get her pictures taken in the dress for the magazine, they said that they had some other outfits that they needed models for and Evie and Georgiana would be perfect! So they both made it in the magazine!

The issue is this Spring’s issue all about inspiring ideas for Easter sewing and it just came out! Here are some photos from the magazine:

Here is the dress my mom made for Evie and Evie modeling it. ๐Ÿ™‚

Here is a close up ๐Ÿ™‚

And the description.

Here, are a few more pictures of Evie and Gigi on Martha Pullen’s website.

I saw a post about these on one of the other blogs I read and I thought that they were cute, so I’m sharing them with you. I need a little inspiration in my life at the moment. ๐Ÿ™‚

They were originally for sale on Blondie Blu‘s Etsy shop, but are all sold out. They wouldn’t be hard to make though with some leftover fabric or paper scraps. ๐Ÿ™‚

I constantly find myself being inspired by all the pretty things out there in the world. My creative juices get to flowing and I just want to create/design/sew/decorate…whatever it may require. I think I’m going to start a new post category just for these bits of “inspiration” so I can share them with you! ๐Ÿ™‚ Here is my inspiration from this afternoon:

How many of you check out Etsy often? I love it! People make the coolest things on there. It is an awesome source for inspiration! I am always seeing things that I love! I want to have my own shop on there one day! I subscribe to their daily newsletter, so I’m always receiving e-mails full of neat things. Two of the shops on today’s newsletter caught my eye.

Three Red Apples shop has some really cute embroidery designs:

Aren’t they cute? I love the idea of fabric/appliquรฉ as art. For a while I’ve had several ideas for artwork similar to these. I like mixing fabric with paintings. ๐Ÿ™‚

Be sure to check out Three Red Apples Etsy store, here.

Today I also saw Little Brown Pen‘s shop. They sell really pretty Parisian photography. I really like the mixture of the pictures together and the sets of colors.

Such pretty pictures. I’ve been so inspired by photography lately. I see so many things during the day that I would like to capture in photos, but I never have my camera with me. The problem is that it is really too big to carry around all the time. ๐Ÿ™

Anyway, those were just a couple bits of creative inspiration that I saw today. ๐Ÿ™‚ What do you find inspires you most?

So I’m sure everyone has one, if not in list form, then in ideas that flow through their heads–a list of things that you would like to accomplish in your lifetime, dreams, goals, etc… I’m sure everyone already knows my dreams of getting married, raising kids, having a happy home, gardening and being creative in my own lovely decorated house somewhere on the Wallace family homestead. I write about that, or at least think about it all the time. But aside from those dreams and the typical dreams of wanting to finish school and figure out exactly what I’m meant to do in life and to work and to travel and to see the world, I have a list of mostly creative objectives that are things that I would like to do before I die. I’m sure that this list will continually change, but as for now, here are some of the things on my life list:

*create my own fabric line

*write and illustrate a children’s book (or books)

*design my own font (or fonts)

*start my own group of creative friends that can meet often to socialize and do crafts, etc… (maybe the Golden Roses?– this is inspired my the Metal Tulips, my fiance’s mom’s crafting group. It is eight women, all best friends, who get together every Wednesday to eat and chat and talk about their latest creative endeavors. They mostly do quilting and embroidery, so they all help each other with ideas and whatnot. Their name was inspired by Steel Magnolias.) I think it is a great thing and I would love to have my own similar group.

*publish a book of my creative non-fiction short stories (following in my grandpa’s footsteps)

*open an “Icing on the Cake” boutique selling handmade things

*learn how to letterpress

*design stationary and wedding invitations

*explore poetry (it is the form of writing that before last semester I was the least familiar with and I am very intrigued by it and I would like to continue to try my hand out at it)

When I bought my Pineapple Brocade fabric from Heather Bailey a couple months ago, I received a 10% off any order coupon for her store. It expired at the end of December, so I just couldn’t resist, I had to buy some more fabric. Her fabrics are just so pretty! So my order came in today and I’m so excited! ๐Ÿ™‚

Hello Roses – Olive

Rose Bouquet – Blue

Sway – Olive

Tiled Primrose – Canary

Paisley – Lime

You can check out her fabric collections on her website, here.

I also ordered the Henrietta Turtle mini pattern and the Clementine turtle kit to make myself one of those darling little pincushions.

Hopefully Clementine will look this this when I’m done:

All the other ones are cute too! I almost got Edna:

Here is Alice:

And Gladys:

And Eloise:

She doesn’t have kits for them, but Effie and Ollie the Elephants are cute too. You can buy her mini pattern for them, here.

Or if you like fruit better, she has a mini pattern and kits for apples, pears, tomatoes, and strawberries. She calls them, “fresh-picked pincushions.”

This is starting to sound like an ad for Heather Bailey. Sorry! I just like her stuff! It inspires me to want to sew all kinds of things and make my own fabrics! (maybe one day) ๐Ÿ™‚

Okay, so I know I keep going on and on about the “icing on the cake” and I don’t want to overuse the saying, but I was thinking the other day about my favorite things in life. So I started writing down the first things that came to my head. I typed them all up and was going to post them the other day, but then I got busy working on other stuff and didn’t have time. I went back to them today and was reading through all the things I wrote, and I don’t know if it is just because I’ve been studying poetry in my creative writing class, but all the words seemed to all connect somehow. I went back through them and linked them all together and I thought it was pretty cool how they all flowed into one big thought. As I was paying attention to the things I wrote, it struck me how lucky I was to have had everything in my life happen in the way it has. Everything that God has given me has meant so much in my life. My family, my hometown, my backyard, my childhood, the traveling I’ve done, the places I’ve been, all the memories I’ve made. They all connect to form the person that I am today, and I thank God for every experience that I’ve been through. As Thanksgiving approaches, I would remind everyone to think about your own lives and all the things that God has given you and everything you are thankful for. It wouldn’t even be a bad idea to write them down.

I know my list isn’t complete, because it will change as I change and grow as I grow, but for right now, here it is:

Ahh why do I love fabric so much?! Maybe because all my life my mom has been sewing project after project and our house was full of fabric. Maybe it is just that it is so pretty and the designs are just so wonderful. Maybe it is because of all the possibilities of things you can create from it. I don’t know why, but I love it. I want to create my own fabric line one day. ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyway, I just got my Pineapple Brocade fabric in today that I ordered online from Heather Bailey. ๐Ÿ™‚ It is BEAUTIFUL! ๐Ÿ™‚

It has more light lime green in it than you can see in the picture, which is perfect for me! I love green! I love the yellow in it too. Yellow was always my favorite color when I was little and my old bedroom at home used to be painted yellow. There is something just so sunshine-y and happy about it. ๐Ÿ™‚

I think that I’m going to use some of it to make a new king size pillowcase for the big pillow on my bed. I think it ties my room in very nicely and goes well with my other bedding. ๐Ÿ™‚ It will look something like this:

I think that this is awesome! I wish that I had all my sewing supplies with me in New Orleans because I would love to participate in this challenge. (Although I’m way to busy to have the time to be able to do so) But for all you sewers and crafters out there, this is for you.

It is an online sewing challenge for the month of October using a word a week. (Last week’s word was “polka dot” and this week’s word is “juxtaposition”) There are four crafters that are big in the online crafting and sewing world that are participating each week and posting their results on their blogs. Everyone else is welcome to participate as well and there is a flickr group online where everyone else can share their results. The only rules are to create something inspired by the inspiration word using fabric in some way. ๐Ÿ™‚

The online crafters participating in the challenge are Sandi Henderson (I mentioned her in my post about my favorite fabric designers, Melissa Esplin (she sews but also does graphic design and art as well!), Cheryl, and the creator of the challenge, Krista Maurer. Click on their names to go and see their websites and what all they have been doing for the challenge. You can learn more about the challenge, here. ๐Ÿ™‚

So far, my favorite product of the challenge has been Sandi Henderson’s super cute skirt she made for the polka dot challenge. You can see it, here.

I was just talking about my favorite fabric designers and while I was reading Sandi Henderson’s blog, Portopellopixie, I saw her pattern for Shabby Pumpkins, and I think that they are adorable! I know it is not even October yet, so it is a little early to be thinking about Thanksgiving, but I think that these would make the perfect centerpieces in the middle of the table or decorating the kitchen/dining room for the fall holidays! Here are some of the photos from her blog:

Speaking of inspiration from my last post, I meant to include in there some of my favorite fabric designers, because I’m really inspired by what they create. My mom is a seamstress and I’ve been sewing and doing all kinds of embroidery and sewing crafts projects since I was little and I really, really love fabric. I love the pretty designs and the possibilities of the things you can create from it. ๐Ÿ™‚

Some of my favorite fabric designers are:

Anna Maria Horner
