Ohhhh can you tell I’m excited!!? Drew walked in the door with this pretty little thing on his shoulder:

How pretty! Ahhh the first gift I’ve ever received wrapped in wedding wrapping! It’s official! We are getting married!! (Obviously, I know. But sometimes you get so caught up in the planning, you forget about the fact that you are actually getting MARRIED!)

It’s a PANINI GRILL!!!!!!!!!! Drew’s landlords, Annie & Max, must know the way to our hearts. We love cooking and love ourselves a good panini. ๐Ÿ™‚

So what did we do to celebrate our first evening as the happy owners of a wonderful/amazing/fancy panini grill? Well, we made Italian chicken, tomato and bell pepper panini’s, of course! (saving us also from another round of leftover lasagna!)

An enormous thank you to Annie and Max! They are the best landlords ever and feel like family! I mean, who else do you usually live with other than family? ๐Ÿ™‚ You can check out Annie’s blog, here.

Last weekend, Drew and I paid a visit to New Orleans’s City Park. It is so pretty there! It is also HUGE and there is so much to see! We’ve been there several times, always seeing something new each time. Here is a cute little bridge over a little waterway.

While we were there, we decided to try out some new camera equipment we bought recently. More about that later. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Here are some of the pictures we took:

More about these later! ๐Ÿ™‚

Today has been a great day! I found lots of cool things!

Drew and I went thrift shopping and found a cute picnic basket and some other cool props for our engagement pictures! We are thinking of having a sort-of picnic in the park for them. I say “sort-of” picnic, because I want it to look nicer with a vase of fresh flowers, old books, a big pretty glass pitcher of lemonade…the sort of things that are too much work for any normal person to take on a real picnic. But I’m hoping they will make for nice pictures. We’ll see how it goes. ๐Ÿ˜‰

We then ran by Jo-Ann’s to look for some other fun crafty things. We found some pretty burlap fabric to use for a picnic blanket for our engagement pictures (I wanted to use a quilt, but the ones we have aren’t in the prettiest colors and I won’t be home anytime soon to find a different one or make a new one). Lately I’ve really been into linen, burlap, and other fabrics that have noticeable grain lines. As you can see from my blog background. I don’t think that it will be the softest fabric to sit on, but it is really pretty and goes with the natural/country but classy look we are going for. ๐Ÿ™‚ Plus, burlap is super cheap as far as fabric goes! It was $3.99 a yard! (before using any coupons/discounts/or sales) Ahh, just look at that nice prettiness:

As we were looking through the fabric selection, I found some pretty home decor fabrics that were on sale! I bought a little bit of two of them to make some pillows for Drew’s couch. (I really like the patterns on them, especially the brown/creme one!)

I also got some linen fabric and some other fun things to make a stitchery wall hanging thing. I miss sewing. As I was looking at the crafts stuff, Drew was walking around complaining about me taking too long and I guess looking cute at the same time, because somehow he got two different ladies to give him coupons. One for 50% off any fabric and another for 25% off of your entire purchase. Yay!

We went to Target because I had to get some toiletries and I wanted to look for a cute, simple and inexpensive tote bag to put all my painting supplies in, because next week we are starting a plein air painting series and we have to haul all of our painting stuff to Audubon Park all week. I toted my stuff to Drew’s house the other day in a plastic bag and it not only cut into my hands because it was too heavy, but the bag started to rip. My painting supplies were really expensive, so I really don’t want to drop them all over the place. Way to go me– I left all my bags of any sort at my home in Harrisburg. But, I found a really cute one for only $12.99. ๐Ÿ™‚ Yay again! (I also found a really cute pink floral scarf there too! I love scarves!)

After that, we stopped to eat at a little cafe for lunch and then off to the mall. I swear, I hardly ever buy anything, or find anything I really like, but today I seemed to just hit the jackpot everywhere. I found a dress to wear for our engagement pictures that is really well made for a inexpensive dress from Macy’s, shoes to wear with it, that were a lot cheaper than I thought they would be, AND a Fossil cross-body small purse that is almost identical to Trang’s that I love and have been searching for something similar for months (Drew had promised to get me one as a Valentine’s day present and I hadn’t found one since then that I liked)! YAY! It was a very successful day! Plus, almost everything I bought was either on sale or reasonably priced! Quadruple yay! ๐Ÿ™‚

Here is a little sneak peek of my engagement outfit: (That floral print is actually the scarf I bought from Target today. I’m thinking about using it as the sash for the dress because I’m not in love with the sash that came with it. It is a little thick for a sash, but I think it would work. It is a pretty perfect match for those shoes!)

I’m getting really excited about our engagement pictures. We’ve got a little project up our sleeves with them. I’ll tell you all about it, once I’m sure that it is going to work. ๐Ÿ™‚ Wedding planning has actually made some progress in the last month. We’ve talked to venues, caterers, photographers, looked into prices for honeymoon locations, priced lots of things and come up with a how-much-we-think-this-wedding-is-going-to-cost-budget. Now we are trying to come up with a lets-actually-be-able-to-afford-this-wedding-budget. We are trying to figure out what is necessary, what isn’t, what we can do ourselves, and want we absolutely have to pay for. We’ve had a lot of good ideas lately about ways that we can save and how we can do things ourselves. It is starting to feel a little better. I want it to be a fun and pretty day, but I also don’t want to spend a ridiculous amount of money for just ONE DAY!ย  Is it a little too ambitious to cater a 250ish person event ourselves? What do you think? ๐Ÿ™‚

Drew and I have been working on our budget. We are pretty thrifty people anyway, but Drew has a weakness for going out to eat. I cook almost all the meals we eat around here, but Drew doesn’t like doing the dishes, so very often he offers to just go out to eat rather than dirtying up more dishes. There are just two of us, so going out shouldn’t be too bad, but in New Orleans there isn’t anywhere that we can eat for under $20 (total). It usually is more like $30. I can buy all the fresh meat and veggies we need to make over a week worth of meals for $30! I like to cook anyway, so we are cracking down and putting a stop to the eating out. (not that we do it all the time or anything, but once is more than we have the money to spend it on.) We’ve got to be saving for our wedding/honeymoon.

Tonight I made Chinese! (I LOVE Chinese food!) I even cooked in a wok and made fried rice and homemade Chinese white sauce for our meat and veggies! It turned out really good! (I thought about making egg drop soup as well, but I already had too much going on to handle another dish!)

Speaking of budgeting, we’ve been working on the wedding budget this weekend. I had talked to possible photographers already, but I also looked into prices for flowers, venues, and catering this weekend. Plus I tried on dresses last week (and looked at the price tags!). Weddings are soooo expensive! How on Earth can people afford these! Did you know that the majority of Americans spend between $18,000 and $30,000 on a wedding! That doesn’t include the cost of a honeymoon or engagement ring either!

I’m trying to do as many things myself, but still, there are just a lot of things you have to pay for! Our draft guest list is at almost 250 people and that is mostly all family and several of our parents’ close friends. There aren’t very many excess people that we could cut off to cut costs. If each person cost $8 a meal, that is already $2,000, just in food! (and I can see people charging more than $8 a person! One of the caterers I looked at was $16 a head!) The photographer I want with digital copies of our pictures is $1,500. Flowers for bouquets, boutonnieres, and 20-30 tables at the reception is going to be around $500 (and that price is low for that many table arrangements). The dress that I really liked at the bridal shop was $1329. (that price was pretty average too) I’m definitely going to try to find something much cheaper than that though, no matter how much I liked it.

I’m worried about how much the venue for the reception will cost. I want to have the ceremony outside at my house, so other than plants and clean-up that is free. The reception I wanted to have in a pretty old wooden barn, but we don’t have one of those. (my grandparents have a barn, but it isn’t big enough and is falling apart) I don’t know where I can find one close to home either. Plus most wouldn’t even have a floor, not to mention electricity or bathrooms. A big white tent for the backyard is upwards of $3,000. Where would people use the bathroom at? What if it rains? Is the ground going to be muddy in the springtime? Up go the costs of renting tables and chairs as well. ๐Ÿ™

Still I’ve got the costs of wedding rings, tuxes, bridesmaids dresses, shoes, veil, jewelry, hair appointments, decorations, cake/dessert, tablecloths, glass bottles for the table arrangements, invitations, save-the-dates, postage for invitations and save-the-dates, bridal shower, marriage license, and the list goes on and on and on! Hope no one wants to drink at our wedding. We can’t afford to pay for drinks. We can’t even afford to pay to feed anyone!

I haven’t said anything yet about a honeymoon either! I hadn’t even thought about the costs for that because I’ve never had to pay for a trip before. If we go somewhere for 5 days and pay an average hotel fee of $200 a night, that is already $1,000. Add in at least $800 in airfare. How are we going to get around? A rental car? That is around $30 a day! Plus gas! What about food? What about sightseeing? At minimum the honeymoon would be $2,000. That is leaving $200 for car, food, gas, sightseeing, etc.. which isn’t very practical. I know it will cost more than that.

I’ll be working this summer, but even if I worked all day long, every day of the summer, at minimum wage I couldn’t even save up enough for the honeymoon alone! The estimated cost of the wedding is at almost $10,000! I can’t even imagine telling my parents that! My dad has no clue how much a wedding is going to cost. That price isn’t even for anything extravagant! That is no alcohol, catering for one entree and two sides, water and lemonade, venue, flowers, photography, clothing, and decorations. That doesn’t include the honeymoon. Maybe I’ll be able to afford this wedding when I’m 40! I know realistically that I could get married in my living room by my dad for free. (others have done it) But I have had this picture in my head of what I wanted for my wedding since I was 8 years old! I don’t know what to cut out and still make it work with my vision. I’m only getting married once, I want it to be nice! Why is everything so stinking expensive!? ๐Ÿ™

This week was quite nice! Lots of relaxing and playing with my nieces. It was much cooler and rainier in Nashville than in New Orleans, but I didn’t mind. Gigi and I were too busy running around the house. I was sad when we had to leave! They are just too cute! I already miss Gigi’s kisses! But they were going up to Harrisburg for the weekend and we were going to Chattanooga to visit Drew’s friend Ryan and then back to New Orleans for this weekend.

But that doesn’t mean that I left without lots of hugs and kisses. ๐Ÿ™‚

Blair and I also went WEDDING DRESS SHOPPING this week while I was there! We went to this cute little shop in her town and I tried on several dresses that I really liked. One in particular I really, really liked! They wouldn’t let us take pictures though. ๐Ÿ™ Sad, I know. I really, really like this one dress. It could be the one! I wanted my mom to see it though, so hopefully soon we are going to make another trip when mom and Kelsey and Jill can come too. ๐Ÿ™‚ YAY! I can’t wait to get wedding plans rolling a little more! ๐Ÿ™‚

Anthropologie just opened a new store, called BHLDN, that is all about weddings! It looks pretty neat! I love the classiness!

I do think that the name they chose is funny though. I don’t like the way the letters look together and that they are all consonants. I looked up why they named it that, and it just said that it was inspired by the Dutch word for “to keep.” Here, is a little more about their story.

I love wedding inspiration! ๐Ÿ™‚

I know I haven’t posted anything yet about wedding ideas. However, I’ve been thinking and planning quite a bit and I have a pretty good idea of what I want for most things. So far everything seems to be working out nicely. I promise to share more about it all later, but so far here is a little tidbit:

I know the colors might seem a little bright, but I plan on pretty much only introducing color through accents, so I’m pretty confident in my vision. Trust me, you’ll see. ๐Ÿ™‚
