This piece is a part of my Home | Place Exhibition in Harrisburg, Illinois, running May 2 – June 23rd. This painting will ship at the end of the exhibition, in late June.
The inspiration for this painting series was sparked by a winter afternoon spent picking fresh lemons from our friend’s backyard lemon tree and returning again a month or two later to pick fresh oranges as well. The abundance of citrus fruits and blossoms in the winter and spring in New Orleans is always a highlight of the season. Smelling orange blossoms on my neighborhood walks, admiring the contrast between fruit trees and colorful front porches, and seeing kumquats used in floral arrangements — I love the beauty and presence of these plants, as well as the nourishment they provide. I enjoyed paying tribute to them as well as exploring color, shape, and shadow in this collection.
